Today, I have a simple yet elegant design that I have made into a sympathy card. While sympathy cards aren’t always easy to make, adding extra details can make these cards a little more special for loved ones. I’m really loving the newer Master Layouts 12 die set, it has both circular and rectangle ornate frames with additional coordinating dies for the centers. I love that there is a large rectangle die that is the perfect size to mat the panel onto an A2 card base that allows an even border all around. Though it’s hard to tell in the final photo, I used Slate and Ivory colored cardstock and ink for this monochromatic card. All of the cardstock, ink, dies and stamps are from Gina K. Designs. Let’s get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, I take the large stitched rectangle die from the Master Layouts 12 Die Set and cut out of Ivory Cardstock, running them through my Platinum 6 Die Cut Machine. I then place this panel into the Petite Flourish Embossing Folder and run them through my P6.

Next, I place a 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ piece of Slate Cardstock into my Scor Buddy and score it at 4 1/4″ to create a side folding card base. Using Liquid Glue, I adhere my panel onto the card base.

Taking the circular shaped ornate die from the same Master Layouts 12 Die Set, I cut out of Slate Cardstock two times, running them through my P6. Using my Fine Tip Bottle filled with Liquid Glue, I stack and glue the two die cut pieces together. I then add Liquid Glue to the back of the frame to center and adhere the frame onto my card front.

With the leftover center pieces from the previously cut frames, I add Liquid Glue to the backs and place them back into the center of the frames on my card front. *Placing these two pieces back into the frame will give me a level surface to mount my focal image. For more of an inlaid look, the focal image piece could just be glued into the center of the frame without the two negative pieces.

Next, I take the stitched circle die from the same Master Layouts 12 Die Set and cut out of Ivory Cardstock, running them through my P6. I then place the die cut piece into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and choose and image from the Fearless Flyers Stamp Set and place it just above center onto my die cut. I pick up the stamp with the door of my MISTI and stamp it onto my die cut piece using Slate Ink. I then choose a sentiment from the Fancy Feathers Stamp Set and stamp it using Amalgam Obsidian Black Ink just below my previous stamped image.

Using the same stitched circle die from the Master Layouts 12 Die Set I cut out of Ivory Cardstock two more times, running them through my P6. I stack and glue the die cut pieces together using Liquid Glue with my stamped image on top. I then glue my stamped image onto the center of the frame on my card front.

Using my Pick & Stick Tool I add a few Dew Drops with Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

I hope you enjoyed today’s card. I love the elements of the Master Layouts 12 die set, they really pull a card together quickly. This is a simple card but with adding texture to the background and a decorative die that frames the focal image, it really steps things up. This layout also works great for wedding and anniversary cards as it gives a touch of elegance. I think this will be my go to for a while!
