Geometric Snowflakes Ink Blend

Today I have a card made with the Geometric Snowflakes Background Stamp from Simon Says Stamp. Wow!! This is my first time using this stamp and I LOVE IT!!! Such a beautiful design that is so quick and easy to create a background. I decided to use it on a full panel today but think it would be just as gorgeous trimmed down to a wide strip. Though the design is called a “snowflake” I feel this is a stamp that could easily be used year round. I chose to go bold on today’s card as I love the impact of the gold embossing over deep jewel tone colors, however, this background can also produce a subtle background by stamping in a watermark ink or even used for tone on tone stamping, such a versatile stamp!! Did you recognize the new color on my panel… Villainous Potion?!!! I couldn’t wait to try this color on a holiday card! Though this color is not a traditional holiday color, when I saw the reveal all I could think of was “I can’t wait to use this color on some of my Christmas cards”!!! For my ink blending I used Distress Oxide Inks over the embossed background. Because this is such a stunning background, I chose to keep my card simple by adding a greeting cut out of glitter cardstock for some added sparkle along with a pre-printed sentiment. I wanted the gold embossed background over the ink blending to show as much as possible! Let’s get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, I take the second largest die from the Master Layouts 1 Die Set and cut out of Bristol Smooth Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. Next, I place the Geometric Snowflakes Background Stamp onto the door of my MISTI Stamp Positioner. I then add a small amount of Adhesive Dot Runner to the back of my panel and line it up face down onto the stamp and close the base of my MISTI onto the door. Now when I open my MISTI, the panel is perfectly lined up with the stamp. I prep the panel with my Anti Static Powder Tool then ink up the stamp with Versamark Ink and stamp it onto my panel two times to get good even coverage. I now add Gold Embossing Powder and heat set it with my Heat Tool.

For my ink blending I use my Blending Brushes and blend Villainous Potion Distress Oxide Ink over the center area of my panel, fading the ink out a bit towards the top and bottom of the blend. Next, I blend Chipped Sapphire Distress Oxide Ink over the top portion of my panel, blending back into the previous color a bit. For my third and final color I blend Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Ink over the bottom portion of my panel and blend back into the center color a bit. To finish, I go back with the color left on each brush and blend where the colors meet to soften the blends. Once my blending is complete I take a soft, dry cloth to gently buff any ink off from the embossing. *I find that when I use three colors on a panel it is easier to start in the center of the panel, this way I get even amounts of each color. Fading out at the top and bottom of the first color helps to create a seamless blend with the joining colors.

Next, I take the largest die from the same Master Layouts 1 Die Set and cut out of Black Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot. Using Double Sided Adhesive Tape I adhere the two panels together.

I now place a 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2 piece of White Cardstock into my Scor Buddy and score it at 4 1/4″ creating a side folding card base. To add some dimension to my panel I add a piece of Fun Foam to the back using Liquid Glue then glue it onto the card base.

For my greeting I want to add some sparkle so I choose a gold piece of Glitter Cardstock from my variety pack and cut out of it with the word die from the Large Joy Dies running them through my Big Shot. Using the coordinating shadow die from the same Large Joy Dies I cut out of Black Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot.

I like adding a little dimension to my die cut words, to do this I use the word die from the Large Joy Dies and cut out of Black Cardstock four times, running them through my Big Shot. I stack and glue two of the die cuts together using Liquid Glue then glue the glitter die cut on top. I then adhere this stacked die cut onto my previously cut shadow die cut using Liquid Glue.

Instead of adhering my greeting flat against the background, I add a little lift to it by stacking and gluing the remaining two die cut words from the Large Joy Dies to the back of the greeting using Liquid Glue. I then mount the greeting towards the lower portion of my card front, off center using Liquid Glue.

To finish off my card I choose a sentiment from the Reverse Sentiment Strips Holiday Wishes and trim it down to a thin strip using my Guillotine Paper Trimmer. For added dimension I glue two thin cardstock strips to the back of my sentiment using Liquid Glue then mount it over the greeting. Using my Jewel Picker I add some Clear Round Drops with Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

I hope you enjoyed today’s card! I love the deep colors with the gold embossing and that glitter greeting really stands out and sparkles!! The centers of this background design looks like tiny twinkling lights when the light reflects off of them, it’s very eye catching! This may be one of my favorite holiday cards I’ve made this year and I plan on making a few more to send out to family and friends. I will be back on Monday, November 1st with a card from Gina K.
